First MLB debut card was sold for $1999!

Topps/Fanatics have come up with something new for this baseball season. Each rookie will receive a patch on their jersey that says "MLB Debut" for their debut. This patch will then be made into cards that are limited to 1/1!

The first of these cards has already been sold online on the EBAY marketplace for $1999! This is Braden Bristo's copy.

What makes these cards so special is not just that they were worn during a game, but also that they can be assigned to a specific game. So you get a patch that was only worn during that one game. Of course, that tells a completely different story than a simple game-worn patch where nobody knows where it actually came from. In addition, the cards are provided with a handwritten signature and are numbered out of /1 pieces!

Definitely a great idea from Topps/Fanatics! It will be interesting to see what is planned for the future. But the fact is that Fanatics has the means to positively surprise the hobby with such campaigns and to create hype around certain cards.
